Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has agreed to sell a majority stake in the football club to three US investors from Stateside investment firm MSD Partners.
While Donald and Charlie Methven will be staying on and keeping minor shares, John Phelan, Glenn Fuhrman and Rob Platek – who are all senior partners at MSD Partners – will be the consortium who takeover the club. The trio were all at Sunderland’s game against AFC Wimbledon 24 hours after news initially broke.
Michael Dell is a known associate of the trio and is involved, but only as a ‘passive, minority invester’.
