A steel manufacturer is planning to open a factory in Hickory later this year, according to the Catawba County Economic Development Corporation.
Steel Warehouse Company is in the process of purchasing the former Appalachian Hardwood Flooring factory at 2441 Highland Avenue NE in Hickory, Catawba County Economic Development Corporation Economic Development Director Nathan Huret said.
Steel Warehouse Company is a family-owned company that has been in business for 75 years. The company has 10 United States locations, one in Brazil and one in Mexico, according to the company’s website.
The company plans to refurbish the 15,000-square-foot factory and expects to demolish a few of the smaller buildings located on the property. The Catawba County Economic Development Corporation has been working with the Steel Warehouse Company since August of 2023, Huret said.
