Omaha bakery surprises father with memento harkening back to business’s origin

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – They don’t let history go stale at Rotella’s Bakery.

“Okay, we’re going to go to the wall.”

Displaying it proudly. Lou Jr. remembering his father, Louis Rotella Senior.

“It’s got my father with that 1948 truck,” Lou Jr. said. “I might not even be 2 years old here, because I was born in 1949 and the truck is a ’48.”

This truck, one of their old delivery trucks, is a time Lou Jr. remembers fondly. Even if some details are murky.

“He thought the truck was green, but I don’t remember that,” Lou Jr. said.

The color may have faded over time, but the feelings haven’t.

“They brought me to the garage, and when I seen it, I had tears, holding back crying actually.”

A long-time employee found a near match for the same delivery truck when he was kid. And Lou Jr.’s son bought it.
