Veteran pollster and political commentator Charlie Cook says Biden has underestimated the long-lasting and damaging effects of inflation on people such as Shea.

“Even though the rate of inflation has gone down considerably, the actual cost of living has remained high, and will remain very high for most people,” Cook says.

“One hundred per cent of people are affected by inflation, something not seen in over 30 years, and had never been seen or recalled by about two generations. The Biden team underestimated the power of high inflation and overestimated the political value of low unemployment,” he says.

Cook now thinks “scar tissue remains” and that many swing voters – in the range of 8 to 10 per cent – that really should be up for grabs, have “hit the mute button on Biden”.
