W.Va. gets new flood warning system, $9.5M infrastructure investment after deadly floods

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – After devastating floods killed eight people across West Virginia in 2025, Governor Patrick Morrisey announced a new early warning system and $9.5 million in water infrastructure investments designed to protect communities and save lives.

The announcement comes ahead of the one-year anniversary of the catastrophic McDowell County flood on Sunday and months after severe flooding struck Marion County, leaving lasting impacts on communities across the state.

McDowell County’s Historic Disaster

In February 2025, catastrophic flooding hit McDowell County. At least one person died, several went missing, and more than 30 swift water rescues were conducted as floodwaters devastated the southern part of the state.
