Tyndall AFB, Eglin AFB, NAS Pensacola give economic update

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. (WMBB) — Next to tourism, the military plays a major economic role in the Panhandle.  

At the Northwest Florida Economic Symposium in Sandestin, local military leaders spoke to the community about partnerships and new projects.  

Top officials at Eglin Air Force Base, Tyndall Air Force Base, and Naval Air Station-Pensacola spoke about the economic impact and partnership the military has in panhandle communities.

“We contributed in FY 22 roughly $ 4.5 billion to the economy,” Col. George Watkins, Tyndall AFB said. 

The panel discussion led by Gulf Coast State College president Dr. Glenn McDonald touched on Eglin’s advances in military technology testing including the use of artificial intelligence.
