Senate Banking Committee approves Trump’s pick Stephen Miran for Federal Reserve board

WASHINGTON (TNND) — The Senate Banking Committee voted Wednesday to approve President Donald Trump’s nomination of Stephen Miran to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors.

The vote, which was 13-11, will now head to the full Senate for final approval.

It comes the day after a federal judge in D.C. blocked Trump’s effort to fire Fed governor Lisa Cook, who the president recently accused of mortgage fraud.

Trump selected Miran to replace Adriana Kugler after Kugler unexpectedly resigned in August.

Miran, who currently serves as the head of the White House’s Council of Economic Advisers, said he will remain on the council if approved to serve out Kugler’s term, which ends in January.

His nomination has raised concerns from Democrats about the Fed’s independence from day-to-day politics, particularly since he said he would keep his job while on the Fed’s board, a historically unusual…
